- When it comes to wallets, I prefer simplicity. It doesn’t have to be good looking (although that helps), but it should be large enough to hold all of the essentials and small enough to fit in a pocket.
- The Quinn card holder by Pixie Mood is slim, sleek, very affordable at $ 25, and made from cruelty-free materials.
- I have been using this wallet for almost a year now and am impressed with its storage capacity. It has certainly suffered some wear and tear, but nothing unexpected and considering the price, it held up pretty well.
I searched for the perfect wallet for what seems like an eternity.
Previously, my bulky leather wallet held almost every receipt and card I’ve ever had, but only made its way into the rotation when I was carrying a large purse. During days when I traveled with a small shoulder bag, I moved important things in a wallet. And, if I ever got rid of the bags, I would just put my most used cards and some cash in the card holder on the back of my phone and call it someday.
The problem with constantly moving all of your important cards – aside from being a nuisance – is that things can easily get misplaced, which is not good news when it comes to cards. identity difficult to replace and others.
That’s why I thought it was time to finally make a change. It’s time to find a wallet that is compact enough to fit in my back pocket, but with enough room for all the cards I might need every day; one that would allow me to keep my most used cards easily accessible. Durable materials and stylish designs would be a plus, but that is definitely not what I would base my choice on.
At the end of the summer, as my wallet search kicked into high gear, the Pixie Mood Quinn Card Holder landed on my desk.
Since my coworker handed it to me for a team review of Pixie Mood’s Outstanding Styles, I haven’t changed my wallet once. There was no reason to do so, frankly. It’s stylish, made of durable material, and has everything I need. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that it’s an affordable $ 25 price tag.
Pixie mood manufactures trendy, practical and socially responsible vegan leather bags. Instead of genuine leather, Pixie Mood uses polyurethane for its wallets and bags, a form of synthetic leather that is actually lighter than real leather. With genuine leather being touted as a luxury material, the idea of a fake version can sometimes seem like a cheap knockoff. In fact, all of Pixie Mood’s bags and wallets are not only cute, but have a high-quality look that suggests they are much more expensive.
Technically, the Quinn is not really a wallet, but a card holder. It has a slim profile with five card slots on the front and a zippered compartment that can hold coins, bills and other small pieces. Measuring just over five inches long and three inches high, it can fit in just about any bag or pocket. While it may seem too small to be a substantial wallet, it does have a surprising amount inside. At the moment, I have seven cards and six MetroCards (I know, I need to take care of this) scattered across the five card slots. Inside the zipped compartment I have business cards, receipts, and a few lost coins.
The Quinn, although it is made of leatherette, has a nice grained leather feel. Mine is a lovely seafoam green color, and although I think it was a summer special edition, you can still find a lot of other great colors. They have your classic neutrals, like black and gray, as well as jewel tones like spruce green and even shiny metallics.
In my experience, most $ 20 wallets act like $ 20 wallets. Zippers get stuck frequently, seams burst too soon, and the materials look as cheap as they get. The Quinn, on the other hand, has a classic look and is particularly durable. Of course, after frequent use, light colored materials will show some wear and tear, so if you are worried about that, I recommend going for a darker color.
A one-year update on the evolution of the portfolio
After almost a year this wallet has definitely seen some wear and tear, but I still use it every day. The zipper has become a bit finicky which is understandable in use. The vegan leather started to fade a bit, especially at the corners of the wallet, but it also softened in the same way as real leather, which was unexpected but pleasant to the touch. The seams along the first slit of the card holder pull, but my cards are still secure, so that’s not much of a problem. It’s certainly not as clean as it used to be, but it was inevitable. I think if it was a darker color (maybe black or navy blue) the wear would not be so noticeable. At around $ 20, I would say it’s all expected. It’s still fully functional and looks pretty cool, so I’ll keep using it until that changes.
The bottom line
If you are looking for a new wallet, the Quinn from Pixie Mood is an easy choice. It’s cute, durable, cruelty-free, and just $ 25, making it a choice that will appeal to your style, values, and budget. Personally, my litmus test for this wallet was how much time I could go without changing my stuff to another wallet, even if it was just for the day. Since it’s been my only wallet for months now, things seem to be going pretty well and I don’t see the need for a more expensive option.
